Gypsies school in France - Jean-Manuel Simoes

For years a long time ago, September was time to go back to the school seats. A dive into the memories to come out with a story of a time when working on the community of “gypsies”, I spent a few days accompanying staff association -ARPOMT Strasbourg- in charge of a traveling school in eastern France.

I remember teachers arrival in the camps, caravan installation with the help of parents, children happy by learning to read, proud parents to see their children can undertake things that ‘themselves could never achieve. Simple things such as reading, writing, combining, count!
I remember the joy of these kids, as always playful and frightened, the delicacy of their features, their carelessness. These kids have grown up, they were at the age my daughter today.
Reading the french press headlines in recent years, especially the last month -overdose Roma / Travellers, another camp dismantled … – and the stigma of excessive hated people, I hard to imagine the way these children were able to follow. And yet, looking at these pictures I’m not convinced that the problem is so intractable that!
There are about two years staff Arpomt members contacted me to ask permission to expose the photos I gave them at the time. First and only time in my life. Respect for the work and honesty, don’t you think so ?
